I am Frank Ebbert, registered architect and principal of Landwave AE, an architecture studio in Arlington, Virginia. Since 2001, Landwave AE has been delivering professional services in facility design, information systems analysis and strategic program design for corporate, federal and residential clients.
Since 1985. I’ve had the fortune to work on a wide variety of buildings with a wide variety of working teams. Architecture is a mercurial practice that energizes our practical and aspirational impulses. Every day we take on the dreaminess of aspirations – the vague, hard to articulate conceptual requirements – and turn them into something concrete, useful and with some care, practical and delightful.
I am part of the charter generation of CAD practitioners. My response to the extreme demands and promises of that technology has been to wrestle it back to business objectives. An epic adventure resulting in over 20 years of in-house software development, workflow analysis, strategic planning and business process reengineering. Computer aided design has pushed my teachings, my skills and my imagination. I’ve tried a lot of things, learned a lot, taken wonderfully unexpected turns and had great outcomes.
There remains much to do.
Since 2001, Landwave has been delivering professional services in facility design, information systems analysis and strategic program design for corporate, federal and residential clients. The approach has been to investigate the tools and boundaries of multiple disciplines: business models, decision making, visualization, organizational management, the arts and engineering.
Creativity and investigation are essential to long run environmental and social sustainability. Landwave is expanding to serve science and arts communities, the basic building blocks of our society. At the forefront of advancing the physical and intellectual infrastructure of business and governance, these communities have unique leverage.
We are approaching the large scale dilemmas of our time by breaking them into manageable pieces and tackling them through new combinations. To that end, our practice is built to weave an unlikely combination of elements: the traditional combination of consulting engineers and designers mixed with science, technology, communications and performance arts, health, educational, organizational development, government and business expertise. The goal is simple: meeting life with delightful, responsible and persistent well being for everyone.
Chronicling subjects germane to building better, the Landwave Monitor maintain focus on strategic subjects. Currently you will find tweet-ish length abstracts with the occasional essay.
The subject matter is fairly widespread, and as such, a fantastic organizational challenge. Richness of experience, being of service, and redefining everyday workflows that support vibrant, sustainable life covers a lot of ground. All in all, this is a typical day here at Landwave: lots of far flung, but somehow related items brought together to create new models, or fresh perspectives on current issues.
